ST. CHARLES — Both drivers in a two-car crash that killed a 62-year-old woman from Wentzville were drunk at the time, according to court records.Â
St. Charles County prosecutors allege that at 2:15 a.m. on Dec. 14, 2024, Kevin Jenkins, 42, of Troy, was speeding on Veterans Memorial Parkway when his vehicle struck a vehicle driven by 70-year-old Mark Hazeltine, also of Troy.Â
Jenkins' vehicle was traveling at 85 to 90 miles per hour, according to a report by the Missouri State Highway Patrol. The speed limit on that stretch of the road is 50 miles per hour.Â
The woman, who was a passenger in Hazeltine's vehicle, was taken to a nearby hospital where she was later pronounced dead. Jenkins and Hazeltine were both also taken to a hospital, where their blood-alcohol levels were tested.Â
Jenkins told police that he had taken prescription drugs before driving, but did not admit to drinking. His blood-alcohol level two hours after the crash was 0.21%, according to the highway patrol. The legal limit is 0.08%.Â
Jenkins' blood sample also tested positive for amphetamines, anti-seizure medications, and anti-anxiety medicine, reports say.Â
Hazeltine told police at the hospital he had consumed two bourbon and Coke drinks prior to getting into his vehicle. His blood-alcohol level was .122% and he also tested positive for anti-anxiety medicine, reports say.Â
