US Homeland Security Paints Border Walls Black To Deter Crossings..

  • 0

US Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announced that the nation’s southern border walls will be painted black to deter people from attempting to scale them. “This wall is part of the difference,†Noem wrote on social media. “Too high to climb. Too narrow to squeeze through,†she added.  She explained that the paint would act as a deterrent: “And now, at the president's direction, it will be painted black—so hot to the touch that criminal illegal aliens won't even try.†The recommendation was made by President Donald Trump during his first term, when he suggested painting the walls black to increase heat absorption and make them more difficult to climb. US Border Patrol Chief Michael Banks also commented on the project, noting an added benefit: black paint will help protect the walls from rust. While Noem did not disclose the cost of painting, recent legislation approved in July allocated approximately $46.5 billion for border barrier improvements.  The package includes funds not only for painting but also for constructing an additional 700 miles of wall. Meanwhile, US Customs and Border Protection reported that illegal crossings in June fell to their lowest level on record.
