Military veterans in the St. Louis area could benefit from upgrades at area Veterans Administration hospitals that are included in the new federal budget.
U.S. Rep. Mike Bost, chair of the House Veterans Affairs Committee, said the budget bill includes infrastructure improvements and equipment upgrades at both the John Cochran and Jefferson Barracks hospitals in St. Louis and the veterans facility in Marion, Illinois.
The work at Jefferson Barracks, in south St. Louis County, includes establishing an emergency medical surgical ward and upgrading the data center.
At Cochran in St. Louis city, the renovations are to include the creation of a new anesthesia procedure room and repairing the energy plant.
The work at the Marion facility calls for renovating the intensive care unit and improving the health-records system.
