A year after its sister location closed in downtown St. Louis after a delinquent tax bill, El Burro Loco in the Central West End appears to have closed its doors and owes more than $350,000 in late taxes.
On Monday, the restaurant was locked up during its usual operating hours around lunchtime. Workers at neighboring businesses said that El Burro Loco, at 313 North Euclid Avenue, closed sometime last week. It is not clear if the pause in operation is permanent.
Earlier this year, the casual Mexican eatery stopped serving alcohol.
A number of liens have been placed against the property due to late tax payments, according to multiple lawsuits filed in April.
In total, El Burro Loco owes $358,257 in sales taxes, dating from 2018 to 2021.
El Burro Loco opened in 2015 and the downtown spot, El Burro Loco La Bamba, opened in 2019.
