MADISON COUNTY — Granite City police chased a suspected kidnapper Thursday night into St. Charles County, where the suspect's car crashed, authorities said.
About 6:30 p.m. Thursday, police were called to a home in the 2100 block of Edison Avenue for a home invasion and kidnapping. Officers saw the suspect drive away from the home with a woman and two children in the car, police said.
As the chase unfolded, police said they learned that the man was driving the woman's car. The children were already in the car at the home on Edison, and the man forced the woman into the car and took off.
During the chase, they called the woman on her cell phone to try to find out if the man had a weapon.Â
Police chased the car into St. Charles County, where it crashed, said Major Charles Bremer of the Granite City police. He did not say where the crash was.
The suspect and woman were taken to a hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, Bremer said. Police have not released additional details about the man they arrested.Â
