College, major:Â Missouri University of Science and Technology, mining engineering, minor in explosive engineering and play DII football "Mining and explosive engineering provides an enticing career filled with great job opportunity, exciting challenges, and vital purposes."
Goal:Â "First and foremost, I hope to deepen my Christian faith along with presenting it to others. In addition, I hope to find a successful career that is enjoyable when I am still well into my older age. I hope to run an Iron Man. I hope to find a wife and raise a family. More importantly, I intend to do all of these things while still striving to have fun and enjoying life's little thrills and gifts."
Favorite Subject:Â Honors Physics and Metallics/Polymers. "This year, Physics has taught me 'How?' and 'Why' behind the behavior of things in this world, so that I may be able to apply these rules and theories to real world situations. Metallics/Polymers have showed me the joy and pride of creating something with my own two hands."
Favorite book:Â Dan Brown's Angels and Demons and Daniel Quinn's Ishmael are my two favorite books.
Favorite musician: Rush, Metallica and System of a Down
Role model:Â "Throughout my life there have been numerous individuals with certain characteristics to which I have strived to incorporate into my life. Such individuals include: my father, my coaches, my physics teacher, my history teacher, my friends, my teammates and even my girlfriend. However, by his or her life, no one person solely inspires me to base my life upon. Therefore, I take many different characteristics from many different inspiring people and apply them to my own style by which I wish to live."
Personal story: "Three weeks into my senior football season, I suffered a shoulder dislocation during practice. The injury ended the remainder of the football season and also required surgery which prohibited me in playing basketball.
"Before the event, I had never been injured in my life, let alone knew 'how' to be injured. My life totally decelerated from playing three varsity sports to being in a shoulder sling not even being cleared to go walking.
"While watching my teammates win and lose games, life was slow, frustrating and depressing. My injury was the greatest trial of my life. However, at the same time, it has also taught me very important life lessons and brought me various opportunities.
"While previously living in a fast-paced life, my injury has taught me to slow down and appreciate the little things life gives us that we seem to overlook. It has taught me patience, a quality to which my parents can testify that I have never had. It has allowed me to focus on and strengthen my relationship with my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
"Furthermore, it has also allowed me to develop a stronger and closer relationship with my friends and girlfriend. In the beginning I didn't understand God's intentions for my injury; nevertheless, with each and every day as I get physically stronger than what I was before, it becomes a little clearer.
"Thankfully, the injury did not repel college's interests in me for my football abilities and still allowed me to sign with Missouri University of Science and Technology. Currently, I am finishing up rehab and competing in shot put in discus. Therefore, in my opinion, what was once my greatest obstacle and trial has become simply a speed bump."
