College, major:Â Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, nursing
Goal:Â "I would like to serve my country as a nurse in the Air Force. I want to save lives and discover things that I didn't even know existed. I want to inspire people, just like I was inspired. I want to travel to all seven continents. I want to be able to look back on my life and say I didn't miss anything or regret anything."
Favorite subject:Â Air Force ROTC. "My passion lies solely in the military. As a member of the Army National Guard (after college I will join the Air Force), I wholeheartedly give a 100 percent in this class with pride, excellence and professionalism. This program has pushed me to levels that I'm not use to, and I value things that push me to a higher level."
Favorite book:Â Bible. "There is so much inspiration packed into its pages. It constantly reminds me that even though I'm not perfect and I fall short sometimes, life goes on. Also, that I shouldn't look down, but forward to what's in store for me."
Favorite musician:Ìý±¹²¹°ù¾±±ð³Ù²â
Role model:Â "I have a few role models that include God, my Air Force instructors, military members and my mother. Everyday my role models devote their time for people like me to pursue their dreams and accomplish anything we set our minds to."
Personal story:Â "I wasn't given the best start in life, but I will have the best ending. I started off as one of the many under-served cases of poverty, and battled through that by enlisting in the Army and earning money to help my family out. I know my next step is to complete college and join the Air Force, but I don't know what is in my future after that. I have been given numerous opportunities to make my life the best I can. My opportunities include earning an education, becoming cadet commander of my ROTC unit, working with State Rep. William Lacy Clay, becoming homecoming queen, and being accepted to all of the colleges I applied to.
I have basically been practicing nursing for my whole life. I have taken care of my grandmother (cancer), father (broken leg, gunshot wounds, and broken collarbone), and elderly people around my neighborhood (walking dogs, moving furniture, and cleaning their houses). I feel that this would be the best option for me because I am passionate about this field of study and I am use to all the task nurses do! Whether its cleaning wounds, injecting medication, or just comforting someone in times of need, I am prepared for nursing."
