ST. LOUIS — An architecture firm is spinning off from troubled Green Street Real Estate Ventures and returning to sole ownership, the company said Wednesday.
HDA Architects will now be called HDA Design and will be owned by President Jack Holleran.
“With current economic conditions, this presents an opportunity to readjust our priorities and focus on our long-term partnerships and key markets,†Holleran said in a statement.

HDA merged with St. Louis-based Green Street in 2020 as the real estate development firm aimed to grow its business across the country.
Green Street, founded in 2008, built a prominent portfolio, primarily in the city of St. Louis, including The Armory entertainment venue, Chroma and Hue apartments in The Grove neighborhood, and River City Business Park in South City.

But over the past year, Green Street has faced multiple financial problems as projects have stalled, taxes gone unpaid and lawsuits from contractors have stacked up.
Green Street laid off several workers; some left to start their own companies, including Halo Real Estate Ventures and .
Green Street founder Phil Hulse did not respond to a request for comment.
HDA said it has a pipeline of work this year across 12 states, with such projects as beverage wholesale facilities, apartments and hospitality.
The company is currently looking for a new office in the St. Louis region. It was previously based at Green Street’s headquarters in the St. Louis neighborhood of Forest Park Southeast.
Patrick Holleran, senior principal of HDA and Jack Holleran’s son, said that the architecture firm will continue to work with Green Street.
“Green Street has been around for a long time and has developed significant projects that have improved our region,†Patrick said. “We have a good rapport and look forward to helping them on future endeavors.â€
